Attended Briggs update today. Interesting new vertical shaft engine they have coming out. Called DOV for Direct Overhead Valve. Has a single lobe cam located in same place as a push rod OHV but no push rods. For lack of better description it uses a mechanism that sort of resembles a pair of pliers except on the jaw end it has a tube across the jaw area with valve contact point on each end. The thing pivots near what would be the pivot point of a pair of pliers with the handle ends making contact with the single lobe cam.
Its just a 10 cid engine, 4 hp but 7 ft lbs of torque. Smaller dimensions then typical OHV, more closer to a flathead.
They also have entered an agreement with Toro to take over production of the small 2 cycle used in Toro's smaller snow blowers. Basically its the same engine Toro has used for several years made by another manufacturer but now will be made by Briggs and Briggs will also take over parts and warranty of the same engine made prior back to the late 90's.
