I was given a snow blower (big) with a locked Briggs 5 HP.
I have several of the older 5 HP Briggs so I figured I could swap the engine out, nothing lost.
Today I pulled the motor, removed the clutch, head and side cover. I was able to pursude the piston to move. I do not have any scoring on the cylinder walls. I oiled it down and rotated the flywheel several times.
The stroke got better and better (smooth) as I worked thru several cycles. I put some oil on top of the piston and it appears to seal well.
I'm thinking of buttoning it back up, put fresh oil in, and see if it starts.
I think the owner knocked the oil plug off in the snow, or forgot to put it back on, and it overheated.
Anything to check before I decarbon the head and button it up?
